Unless of course friend Turdi wrote to the Italians in the name of Ms.Kadir to correct the translation mistake as claimed and provide the true interpretation.

By the way ,many uyghur people have not yet read your translation of the interview as they do not comprehend English and it would be such a great service to Uyghurs and DUQ to announce the feat of DUQ president in Italy.

Why did not DUQ do it themselves is another question.
Does it have no news value for the Uyghur people ?

Thank you for the translation from Italian .It is a wonder why you were not present during the interview to avoid the misinterpretation which arose after it was printed.
Dear friend Turdi's reported comment by Ms Kadir is actually out of place here because the target address is the Italian translator and the news organ which published the interview.
May be you can help us (Turdi and Ms.Rabiya Kadir)by translating her words to Turdi into Italian and send it to them. After all you took the responsibility by translating from Italian and enlightening the English speaking Uyghurs.
Now the Italian public will not be aware of the correction made by the interviewed, which seems to be of utmost importance to the Uyghurs because they are now divided in their opinions as to what the real aspirations of DUQ are.

Would it be too much to ask ?

cordially,
oguzhan

Rabiye Kadir asked me this morning to post a comment here to explain what happened in Rome. She said the Italian translator has very limited knowledge of Uyghur language, therefore, she mistranslated what Rabiye Kadir said. She said she never said "independence is impossible", she did not renounce independece either. She said it is up to the people in East Turkistan to decide once they have the freedom to say or express themselves and decide their own future for themselves. We are merely fighting for that freedom.

Thanks for the translation and insightful commentary. While I think that Rabiya still has a tendency towards the dramatic ("through the prohibition of instruction in the Uyghur language, our culture will be wiped out"), you are right that there is a definite shift that may lead eventually to some form of practical engagement with Beijing. I think that Rabiya and the Dalai Lama both have the strategy of shifting the debate away from direct confrontation so that the leadership on the other side of the equation (HuJinTao and WenJiaBao) will eventually feel compelled to engage in a dialog. Whether this will ever lead to real changes is of course hard to say.
