On the January (or February?) 2008 Urumchi raid
Either on 27 January or 4 February 2008, or possibly somewhere in between, a raid of some sort may have been carried out on what may have been a Xinjiang separatist terrorist cell located in the Happy Garden (幸福花园) neighborhood in southern Urumchi. Either 18 terrorists were killed, or two were killed and fifteen more captured. It was also rumored that two police officers might have been killed. Conflicting reports have been issued by both Chinese and foreign news agencies, and the situation has been commented upon by Xinjiang Party Chairman Wang Lequan (王乐泉).
Since The New Dominion was happily on hiatus when this happened, we refer you to an excellent post on the subject over at Mutant Palm.
