bätmäzhäp is a Persian word, bad-mazhab, i.e. belonging to a bad faction, sect, depending on how you want to translate mazhab. Here it’s clearly a term of opprobrium towards the jadids. “bad” in Persian happens to coincide with “bad” in English, but it’s pure coincidence, they’re not cognate.
